NEW YORK (AFP) - Serena Williams' quest at more tennis history was put on hold on Thursday as the US Open women's semi-finals were postponed.
Officials pushed back the matches to Friday due to forecasts of rain in New York.
Top-ranked defending champion Williams will now play Italy's Roberta Vinci, ranked 43, in Friday's first semi-final starting at 11am (11pm Singapore time), followed by Romania's second-ranked Simona Halep facing Italian 26th seed Flavia Pennetta in the other at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The winners will meet in Saturday's final.
The start time of the men's semi-finals on Friday has been delayed two hours to 5pm (5am on Saturday, Singapore time).
