SINGAPORE - Even after more than 10 years on the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Tour, the learning curve is still steep for Angelique Kerber.

The 30-year-old German endured some painful lessons last year when she started her season at the top of the world rankings but slumped to 21st at the end of it after failing to win a title.
