Local telco StarHub reaffirmed its support for local sports on Thursday, when it announced a sponsorship that made it a Founding Partner of the Singapore Sports Hub, as well as the official telecommunications partner of the $1.3 billion facility.

Under the agreement, StarHub will receive branding rights to the National Stadium's South West Gate entrance, as well as a 30-seater corporate hospitality suite.

It will also broadcast the Oct 17-26 BNP Paribas Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Finals Singapore presented by SC Global live and free on its dedicated sports channel SuperSports Arena (StarHub Channel 112 and 201). StarHub has also committed to carrying content from the Women's Tennis Association tour on its pay television and Over-The-Top platforms, allowing customers to watch WTA content at home on their televisions or on the go on their tablets and smartphones.

Said Tan Tong Hai, chief executive officer of StarHub: "Sports is in our DNA and we are delighted to have found two like-minded partners in the Singapore Sports Hub and WTA. It is truly an exciting time to be a sports fan in Singapore and ... we will use our multiple communications channels to bring across the message that sports is for everyone."

Singapore will host the US$6.5 million BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore, the prestigious season finale, at the Singapore Sports Hub. Stars such as Maria Sharapova and Li Na are likely to compete in the 10-day sport extravaganza, which will also see past greats such as Martina Navratilova play in the Legends event.
