Tennis: Singapore Davis Cup team earns promotion back up to Group 3

Singapore earned promotion to the Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Zone Group 3 last Saturday, after triumph in the Group 4 promotion play-offs held in Bahrain.

The team, which is bouncing back from last year's relegation, beat Jordan 2-0.

Isaac Ong got the Republic off to a good start when he beat Mousa Alkotop, fighting back from a set down to force a third and eventually win 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-2).

Roy Hobbs then won his match against Seif Adas 6-4, 6-3. With two victories in the back, the dead doubles rubber did not need to be played.

The team's victory against Jordan came after beating the United Arab Emirates on Thursday, before another convincing 3-0 win over Kyrgyzstan in the round-robin stages.

The team also comprised of Sherwin Foo and Shaheed Alam.
