Tennis: Murray beats Zverev, Raonic pounds his way past Pouille at Australian Open

MELBOURNE (AFP) - World No. 1 Andy Murray wore down young German Alexander Zverev to win his opening match in straight sets at the Australian Open on Tuesday.

Last year's runner-up won 6-1, 6-2, 6-3 in 2hr 7min and will face Australian Sam Groth in the second round.

In another men's match, Canada's big-serving Milos Raonic pounded Frenchman Lucas Pouille to glide into the second round.

The 13th seed, who conquered Roger Federer in the final of the lead-up Brisbane International, swept through 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 in just 86 minutes on Show Court Two.
