Tennis: Four youngsters to play at WTA Rising Stars Invitational in Singapore

Four young tennis players have been confirmed for the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Rising Stars Invitational at the Singapore Sports Hub next week.

The WTA announced today that Monica Puig (21-years-old), Shelby Rogers (22), Zarina Diyas (20) and Zheng Saisai (20) have been selected for the event that will be hosted during the 2014 BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore Oct 17 to 21.

The quartet were picked after an online worldwide fan poll.

Diyas and Zheng, who hail from Kazakhstan and China respectively, will represent the Asia-Pacific group while American Rogers and Puerto Rican Puig, an American and Puerto Rican respectively, will play for the Rest of World team.

The poll garnered over 692,000 votes from over 346,000 fans around the world to vote for 21 eligible players as their favourite WTA Rising Star.

"We're excited to showcase the next generation of talent at the WTA Rising Stars Invitational at the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore," said Stacey Allaster, chairman and chief executive officer of the WTA.

"We wanted to hear from our fans and the response was terrific. It shows that our players continue to have a strong connection with fans around the world."
