Splendid Serena Williams up for the challenge

In the lead-up to the Oct 21-28 BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global, Courtney Nguyen will pen columns exclusively for The Straits Times. This is the first of an eight-part series.

In a career defined by chapter upon chapter of dramatic feats and fables, Serena Williams wants her storybook ending. No, she demands it. And if she pulls it off, it will be one of the greatest sporting feats in history, which will cap off the greatest sporting career anyone has ever seen.

Already a legend, Serena wants to go out as THE legend. She owns the Open Era record for Grand Slam singles titles but the target is, as it has always been, the all-time record. To do that, she will need to win two more majors to pass Margaret Court's record of 24.
