Rafael Nadal made surprisingly light work of his great rival Novak Djokovic yesterday, easily beating the Serb 6-2, 6-4 in their 50th meeting to reach the ATP Madrid Open final.

It was also Nadal's first win over Djokovic since the 2014 Fench Open final.

The Serb maintains a 26-24 head-to-head record over the Spaniard.

Nadal, a nine-time French Open champion, remains unbeaten on clay this season as he seeks a third title in a month, following wins in Monte Carlo and Barcelona.
