Singapore paddler Yu Mengyu's unexpected run in the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) World Tour Grand Finals came to an end today after she fell in the semi-finals.

The world No. 13 was defeated by South Korean Seo Hyo Won 4-2 in the last four of the US$1 million (S$1.3 million) tournament in Bangkok.

The defensive specialist, ranked 12th in the world, had earlier eliminated Yu's compatriot Feng Tianwei in the quarter-finals. She again proved to be the bane of Singapore as she beat Yu 4-11, 11-5, 11-6, 11-8, 8-11, 11-9 to advance to the final.

This was the second outing for Yu, 25, in the prestigious year-ender and she had posted credible wins against Germany's third seed Han Ying (world No. 17) and Japan's Sayaka Hirano (world No. 25) in the previous rounds.

Yu was knocked out in the second round of the 2012 edition by top Chinese player Liu Shiwen.
