Singapore's top paddler Feng Tianwei crashed out of the International Table Tennis Federation World Tour Grand Finals, losing to South Korean Seo Hyo Won in the quarter-finals of the singles event on Saturday.
The world No. 4, top seed at the prestigious year-end tournament, was beaten 13-11, 11-3, 11-8, 6-11, 11-8 by Seo, a defensive specialist ranked 12th in the world.
Feng also lost in the women's doubles semi-finals earlier in the day, when she teamed up with Yu Mengyu to play Japan's Miu Hirano and Mima Ito. They were beaten 5-11, 11-8, 11-6, 11-4, 9-11, 11-8.
There was cheer, however, for Yu in the singles event. The world No. 13 took out No. 16 Sayaka Hirano of Japan in her quarter-final, winning 11-5, 5-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-8.
Yu will have the chance to avenge her team-mate's loss when she plays Seo for a place in the final on Sunday.
