Table Tennis: Singapore's Feng and Yu reach Poland Open women's doubles final

SINGAPORE - The Republic's Feng Tianwei and Yu Mengyu lived up to their billing as the top seed at the International Table Tennis Federation Polish Open in Warsaw on Saturday, beating third seed Liu Shiwen and Li Xiaoxia of China to earn a place in the women's doubles final.

The Singaporeans beat the Chinese duo in the semi-final 11-4, 9-11, 11-8, 11-3.

Feng and Yu, bronze medallists from this year's World Table Tennis Championships, will face another Chinese pair on Sunday, second seeds Ding Ning and Zhu Yuling.

In the women's singles, Feng cruised past Germany's Shan Xiaona 11-4, 11-4, 13-11, 11-5 but stumbled in a clash against world No.1 Ding Ning in the quarter-finals. She was beaten 11-6, 11-2, 14-12, 11-3, 12-10.

Yu, however, was no match for China's world No. 2, going down 6-11, 7-11, 9-11, 5-11.

In the men's singles, Singapore's Gao Ning was beaten 11-4, 11-2, 11-6, 11-5 by China's world No. 4 Zhang Jike.
