Sembawang GRC MP Ellen Lee was elected president of the Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA) on Saturday at its biennial general meeting (BGM).

Ms Lee, 57, takes over from outgoing president and fellow MP (Nee Soon) Lee Bee Wah, who announced last month that she will be stepping down after six years at the helm of one of Singapore's most successful sport.

Chua Chu Kang GRC MP Alex Yam, 33, was elected deputy president at the BGM, held at the National Library's Imagination Room. Both Ms Lee and Mr Yam did not face any contest for their positions.

The new office-bearers will serve a two-year term. Their immediate task is the upcoming Asian Games in South Korea. Singapore won one silver in table tennis at the last Asiad in 2010.
