SINGAPORE - The Singapore Swimming Association (SSA) announced a landmark $1.6 million sponsorship agreement with sports apparel company TYR on Saturday (May 28) afternoon.

The cash-and-kind deal is for five years until 2020 and is the largest in SSA's history.

It will cover all four disciplines - swimming, water polo, synchronised swimming and diving - and SSA's athletes will wear TYR swimwear and apparel when representing Singapore at international meets.

SSA president Lee Kok Choy said: "We are on a journey towards our 2020 goals, and to be a world-class aquatic nation.

"There is a great value in this mutually-beneficial partnership with a leading swimwear brand, that will provide all athletes with the latest equipment and technology they need in the pool."

The SSA has secured close to $4 million in sponsorship since mid-2014 and its corporate partners include the likes of OCBC Bank, Neo Garden Catering, Volkswagen, Yakult, and 100PLUS.

The ceremony at Stadium Riverside Walk next to the National Stadium also doubled-up as the official send-off for the Republic's national swimmers who will be travelling to North America and Paraguay for an overseas training stint.

Several members of the squad will also compete in August's Olympic Games in Rio.
