Spirits were high this morning as the inaugural ST Run in the Park got underway under clear skies at the Punggol Waterway Park.

At 6.45am, more than 2,000 people sped off as Straits Times editor Warren Fernandez flagged off the 15km competitive run - the first of three runs today.

"I'm sleepy but really excited," said engineer Clement Wong, 28, who arrived at 5.45am with his colleagues.

"I'm not going for timing, just want to have fun and check out the place. It's my first time in Punggol," he added.

Another 10,000 runners will take part in the 10km competitive run later at 7.15am, as well as the 5km fun run at 8am.
