Zhou clinches second title within a week
Local junior paddler Zhou Jingyi has won the Hopes Girls' singles title at the ITTF Thai Junior series in Bangkok, after claiming a singles title at the Asia Hopes Follow Up Camp and Challenge days earlier.
The 12-year-old, who finished second in last year's event, beat compatriot Ser Lin Qian 9-11, 12-10, 11-6, 11-7 yesterday in the under-12 category.
Bowler Cherie Tan makes finals in US
Singapore bowler Cherie Tan has qualified for the step-ladder finals of the PWBA Fountain Valley Open in California, after finishing in the top four of the group step-ladder finals yesterday morning (Singapore time).
Tan, 29, secured her spot after beating sister Daphne, scoring 210 pinfalls to the latter's 199. She joins Liz Johnson, Kelly Kulick and Verity Crawley in the May 23 step-ladder finals at the Raising Cane's River Centre in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Kerr oversees practice after weeks
NEW YORK • Golden State warriors coach Steve Kerr was involved in practice on Saturday for the first time since early in the National Basketball Association post-season, as the team worked out in preparation for the Western Conference finals.
Kerr, 51, has not been on the bench since Game Two of a first-round play-off series against the Portland Trail Blazers on April 19 because of recurring issues resulting from back surgery two years ago.
