INCHEON • Singapore paddlers Yu Mengyu and Zhou Yihan play Hong Kongers Lee Ho Ching and Tie Yana in the women's quarter-finals at the Korea Open, after coming from behind to beat Japanese Honoka Hashimoto and Hitomi Sato 3-2.

But Zhou failed to make the women's singles round of 32, falling to 15-year-old Hina Hayata 1-4. And Zeng Jian lost to Japan's Yui Hamamoto 0-3 in the Under-21 women's singles semi-finals.


Rose moves from Chicago to New York

NEW YORK • Chicago Bulls playmaker Derrick Rose, a former National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player nagged by knee injuries for years, was traded to the New York Knicks on Wednesday in a six-player deal.

Rose, fellow guard Justin Holiday and a second-round 2017 NBA Draft pick were sent to New York by the Bulls, in exchange for centre Robin Lopez and guards Jerian Grant and Jose Calderon.

Sore thumb so Park pulls out of US Open

NEW YORK • Seven-time Major winner Park In Bee, the world No. 3 golfer from South Korea, withdrew from next month's US Women's Open on Wednesday with a nagging left-thumb injury.

The 27-year-old pulled out of the July 7-10 event at CordeValle in San Martin, California, after quitting two events following the first round last month because of the injury.

Russian lifters may be booted from Rio

PARIS • Russia's weightlifters face being kicked out of the Rio Olympics for repeated doping violations, days after the International Olympic Committee upheld a ban on its track and field athletes.

Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus are to be suspended for one year by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) over failed retests from the 2008 and 2012 Games in Beijing and London.
