Young Lions, DPMM crash to defeats

Struggling S-League clubs Young Lions and Brunei DPMM both lost last night.

The basement side Young Lions, winless with three points , fell 1-2 to Geylang at the Jalan Besar Stadium.

Amy Recha (67th-minute penalty ) and Victor Coto (76th) scored for the Eagles before a consolation goal from Amirul Adli (82nd) at the Jalan Besar Stadium.

Ridhuan Muhamad's 53rd-minute winner was the difference for Warriors FC at the Choa Chu Kang Stadium. DPMM are eighth on four points.


Fencer Wong comes in third at US C'ships

National fencer Maxine Wong won a bronze medal at the US National Championships in Salt Lake City, Utah, yesterday morning (Singapore time).

The 16-year-old clinched the joint bronze with Isabelle Elizondo of the US in the junior women's foil individual competition, which comprised 185 competitors. Americans Sylvie Binder and Morgan Partridge won gold and silver respectively.

Fellow Singaporeans Amitha Berthier and Nicole Wong were 11th and 46th respectively. Competition ends next Monday.


Super Rugby's Lions maul Sunwolves

JOHANNESBURG • Super Rugby side Lions beat the Sunwolves 94-7 at the Ellis Park Stadium on Saturday.

The Sunwolves, co-based in Japan and Singapore, have lost 11 out of 12 matches this season.

They face another South African team, the Stormers, on Sunday. Their final game takes place on July 15.
