LONDON • Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal's future has been placed in further doubt after the Dutchman was left out of the club's promotional video, which featured both current and former players, for the summer tour of China.

His position at Old Trafford has been the subject of continued speculation with former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho tipped to take over.


Schweinsteiger injured again during training

BERLIN • Midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has suffered a partial tear of the medial collateral ligament in his right knee that could rule the Germany captain, 31, out of Euro 2016.

The setback, sustained while training with the national team on Tuesday, is the latest blow to his injury-plagued season.


Marler may face ban for making 'Gypsy boy' quip

LONDON • England prop Joe Marler could face a four-week ban after World Rugby said that the Harlequins player would face a misconduct hearing.

The case was seemingly closed last week when Six Nations Rugby took no action against Marler for calling Samson Lee, the Wales prop, "Gypsy boy", but that decision has now been overruled.


Life bans for illicit betting in badminton

KUALA LUMPUR • Badminton bosses have brought in life bans for match-fixers and illegal gamblers as part of a new charter announced yesterday which gives the body greater scope to root out corruption.

The Badminton World Federation also made it an offence not to report knowledge of illegal betting or failure to cooperate with its investigations.
