U-12 bowling champs crowned
Bowlers Darius Huang and Darlene Kan were crowned the Under-12 boys and girls' champions respectively at the Singapore International Open at the Singapore Bowling@Rifle Range yesterday.
Darius, 11, had an eight-game total of 1,603 pinfalls, while Darlene, 12, scored 1,355. Other events at the tournament are still in progress, and will end next Saturday.
Feng last S'porean to exit China Open
SHENZHEN • Singapore's top female paddler and world No. 9 Feng Tianwei lost 11-8, 10-12, 11-6, 15-13, 14-12 to Japan's Hitomi Sato, ranked three spots below her, in the China Open round of 16 last night.
Sato had beaten Lin Ye 11-6, 11-7, 14-12, 8-11, 5-11, 12-10 in the opening round. Lin and Yu Mengyu lost in the doubles last 16 to Miu Hirano/Kazumi Ishikawa, who had eliminated Zeng Jian and Zhou Yihan earlier.
Senegal, Morocco in 0-0 draws
GENEVA • African pair Senegal and Morocco drew blanks, as the two World Cup-bound teams were held to 0-0 draws at Luxembourg and by Ukraine in Geneva respectively on Thursday.
Senegal talisman Sadio Mane sat out the game, having joined the squad only this week after the Champions League final where he scored for Liverpool in their 3-1 loss to Real Madrid.
No gold but Bolt still wants football dream
DRAMMEN (Norway) • Manchester United fan Usain Bolt hopes to play in a friendly against the Norway Under-19 team next week as part of his ongoing bid to become a professional footballer and prepare for his Old Trafford debut in a charity match.
The 31-year-old trained with Norwegian top-tier club Stromsgodset on Thursday, when the Court of Arbitration for Sport rejected an appeal by Jamaican sprinter Nesta Carter, whose positive doping test saw Bolt lose an Olympic relay gold medal.
