Stags win but Albirex look good for title

Tampines Rovers beat Home United 2-0 in their S-League game at Bishan Stadium last night, to maintain their slim hopes of catching champions and leaders Albirex Niigata with three matches left.

Ryutaro Megumi's brace in the 13th and 55th minutes put the Stags (47 points) into second spot and within six points of the White Swans, who can virtually retain their title by beating Balestier away on Thursday.


Celtic, PSG and Basel cop Uefa fines

BASEL • Uefa has fined Celtic and Paris St-Germain for crowd trouble after their Champions League game last month, European football's governing body announced yesterday.

The Scottish side were fined €10,000 (S$16,000) for a field invasion after a supporter ran onto the pitch and attempted to kick PSG striker Kylian Mbappe. The French team were fined €5,000 for acts of damage after visiting supporters broke seats at Celtic Park.

Meanwhile, Basel had to pay a fine of €12,000 after visiting supporters set off fireworks in their game against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Pyeongchang Games facilities all built

ANCIENT OLYMPIA (Greece) • Organisers of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics have completed construction of all competition and non-competition venues, Games chief Lee Hee Beom said yesterday ahead of the start of the torch relay.

Pyeongchang had been rushing to finish work on a number of projects including hotels and event venues after falling behind in the first few years of preparations.

The flame will arrive in Seoul on Nov 1 for the start of a three-month journey across the country.
