Slingers fall to Heat but stay 2nd in ABL

A poor final quarter for the Singapore Slingers led to the hosts' shock 73-75 loss to the Saigon Heat in the Asean Basketball League at the OCBC Arena yesterday.

The Slingers' sixth defeat in 17 games drops their record to .647 but they stay second behind the Hong Kong Eastern Long Lions, who have virtually wrapped up top spot in the regular season.


Ng loses in Doha s-finals and ends 4th

DOHA • Singapore bowler Shayna Ng finished fourth at the Emir Cup yesterday, after losing to Qatari Jassim Al-Muraikhi in the step-ladder semi-finals of the mixed tournament.

She posted 463 pinfalls over two games to her opponent's 477.


Yeo wins 3rd U-19 title at Dutch Junior

HAARLEM (Netherlands) • Singapore's Yeo Jia Min brought home her first badminton title of the year at the Dutch Junior event.

She beat Pattarasuda Chaiwan of Thailand 21-16, 21-15. This is her third Under-19 women's singles international success.


Two world bests at US indoor c'ships

NEW YORK • Noah Lyles ran the fastest indoor 300m as he and weight thrower Gwen Berry set world bests at the US Championships on Saturday.

The 19-year-old clocked 31.87sec at high altitude in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to clip one-hundredth of a second off Wallace Spearmon's 2006 best.

Berry unleashed a toss of 25.60m on her final throw, bettering the previous best of 25.56m by Brittany Riley in 2007.
