JAKARTA • A team from Karate-Do Goju-Kai Singapore bagged two golds, one silver and three bronzes at the 6th Asian-Pacific Goju-Kai Karate-Do Championships.

The Nov 26-30 competition, held every four years, drew more than 400 competitors.


Fifa, sponsors discuss reform process

•ZURICH • Fifa's leadership held talks on reforms yesterday as top sponsors Anheuser-Busch, adidas, Coca-Cola, McDonald's and Visa, who provide hundreds of millions of dollars to football's governing body, demanded the reforms should be "subject to independent oversight".

The Fifa executive committee - with president Sepp Blatter and vice-president Michel Platini both suspended - is holding two days of talks to discuss reforms proposed by top sporting official Francois Carrard.

Indonesia to pick up Asian Games pace

JAKARTA • Indonesia promised yesterday to speed up preparations for the 2018 Asian Games after the Olympic Council of Asia expressed concern about slow progress.

Jakarta was awarded the Games in September last year after the original host Vietnam withdrew due to economic problems, but the late decision meant it had four years instead of the usual six to prepare.

Red Sox pitcher to get $306 million

NEW YORK • David Price, a 30-year-old left-hander, reached an agreement with the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday on a seven-year, US$217 million (S$306 million) deal that will be the richest for a pitcher in Major League Baseball history.

It narrowly topped Clayton Kershaw's US$215 million extension with the Los Angeles Dodgers last year.
