Singapore Sevens carnival to kick off
The HSBC World Rugby Singapore Sevens carnival will be held tomorrow and Saturday from 5-11pm at the Clarke Quay Fountain Square.
Besides a live DJ set, fans will be able to meet Singapore's national men's team on Friday night to learn more about the sport and play games, all part of the Singapore Sevens theme of "Rock, Ruck and Rumble".
The April 16-17 competition will be held at the National Stadium.
West Ham win appeal over Kouyate's red
LONDON • West Ham United have won an appeal against the red card shown to midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate during Sunday's FA Cup fifth-round win at Blackburn Rovers.
The midfielder, who was set to incur a one-match suspension, is now available to face Sunderland in the Premier League on Saturday.

Schmidt banned and fined by German FA
BERLIN • Bayer Leverkusen manager Roger Schmidt was yesterday banned from the bench for five league games and fined €20,000 (S$31,000) after refusing a referee's order to leave the touchline.
The German Football Association (DFB) has taken a hard line with Schmidt, who is banned for the next three league games, with a further two games suspended until June 30, 2017.

Gasol to miss rest of season after surgery
WASHINGTON • Memphis Grizzlies centre Marc Gasol has had surgery on his right foot and will miss the rest of the National Basketball Association season.
The Spaniard played in 52 games this season and finished with averages of 16.6 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.35 blocks in 34.4 minutes per game.

Federer happy to be back on the court
LONDON • Roger Federer returned to the practice courts for the first time since undergoing right knee surgery three weeks ago.
He tweeted the image of an indoor training session, stating that he had "rarely felt so happy to be back on a practice court".
