Shooting trio earn world junior silver
Singaporean shooters Adele Tan, Ho Xiu Yi and Martina Veloso won the silver medal in the women's junior 10m air rifle team event at the June 22-29 ISSF Junior World Cup in Suhl, Germany on Monday.
They tied with China after six series of shots but were pipped to the gold medal after a tie-breaker. Both teams had separately managed world junior record team scores of 1,879.9 points.
Harden is MVP at last, Simmons best rookie
LOS ANGELES • Houston Rockets guard James Harden claimed the first Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award of his career at Monday night's National Basketball Association (NBA) Awards show in Santa Monica, California.
He beat four-time MVP LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers and the New Orleans Pelicans' Anthony Davis for the honour, which he had finished a runner-up for last season to the Oklahoma City Thunder's Russell Westbrook and in 2015 to the Golden State Warriors' Stephen Curry.
Philadelphia 76ers point guard Ben Simmons was named the NBA's Rookie of the Year after the former No. 1 overall pick helped the team break their five-year play-off drought.

Sunwolves coach to have back surgery
TOKYO • Sunwolves coach Jamie Joseph has said he is temporarily stepping down from the role to undergo back surgery, and his assistant Tony Brown is taking control of the Super Rugby team until the end of the season.
Joseph, who is also the Japanese national team coach, is to return to his native New Zealand for the operation before returning to Japan to begin preparing the team for their November Tests.
