Schooling slow in 200m fly, will focus on 100m

AUSTIN • Singapore swimmer Joseph Schooling clocked 2min 2.31sec in the 200m butterfly at the Longhorns Elite Invite on Sunday to finish seventh.

The time is far from his national record of 1:55.73. The 20-year-old said he was worn out from having swum two hard races before and his focus remains on the 100m fly for August's Rio Olympics.

S'porean Tang wins Phuket half-marathon

PHUKET • Singaporean Vivian Tang won the women's half-marathon in the 11th Laguna Phuket International on Sunday, clocking 1hr 27min 11sec. She finished ahead of Philippine duo Christabel Martes (1:28:13) and Jho-An Banayag (1:29:17).

Filipino Richard Salano was the men's category winner in 1:15:18. Over 6,000 runners took part in various categories over the weekend.

Arsego takes charge of S'pore basketballers

The Basketball Association of Singapore said yesterday that Frank Arsego has joined its ranks as national head coach and technical director.

The Australian replaces Neo Beng Siang, whose contract expired in February, as national head coach. Arsego signed a two-year contract.

Yusopov takes place of hamstrung Denisov

MOSCOW • Zenit St Petersburg midfielder Artur Yusupov has been called up to Russia's Euro 2016 football squad to replace Igor Denisov, who injured his hamstring.

They had already lost influential Alan Dzagoev after the midfielder fractured a bone in his foot last month.
