Schippers leads with sub-22 in 200

OSLO • Dutch sprinter Dafne Schippers clocked a season-leading 21.93sec to win the women's 200m at the Diamond League meet in Oslo's Bislett Stadium on Thursday.

The 23-year-old next competes in July's European Championships in Amsterdam and will be among the favourites for gold at the Rio Olympics.

Pele auction rakes in $6.7m

LONDON • The three-day sale of memorabilia belonging to football icon Pele ended on Thursday, with sales totalling £3.4 million (S$6.7 million).

Among the highlights were the Brazilian's third and final World Cup winners' medal from 1970, which fetched £346,000, and his 1,000th game crown, which sold for £162,000.

Thais sweep S'pore junior golf event

Thais Chonlatit Chuenoonngam and Onkanok Soisuwan came up tops in the Singapore Junior Golf Championship yesterday.

Chonlatit closed with a three-under 69 for 214 to win the boys' title by three strokes from team-mate Putt Sridama (71) at the Seletar Country Club. Singapore's Donovan Lee (73), also on 217, finished third on countback but took the Overall Best Local Player trophy.

Onkanok fired a 66 for a 205 and was 11 strokes clear of compatriot Atthaya Thitikul (76) in the girls' division.
