Real 's Varane out of Champs League final

MADRID • Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane will miss the Champions League final after suffering a hamstring injury in training, the Spanish media reported yesterday.

The centre-back could be out of action for three weeks, also making him doubtful for France's first game at Euro 2016, against Romania on June 10.

Varane is most unlikely to start against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League final on Saturday in Milan, with Sergio Ramos and Pepe the usual first- choice defensive pairing for coach Zinedine Zidane.

Tarics, who was born in 1913 in Budapest, died at his home in San Francisco, according to a statement by the Hungarian Olympic Committee on Saturday.

A keen mathematician from an early age and an engineer by profession, he left Hungary after the Communist Party takeover in 1948 and settled in San Francisco where he worked as a university professor.

Goromaru to miss rest of rugby season

BRISBANE • Japan World Cup star Ayumu Goromaru faces shoulder surgery next week and will miss the rest of the Super Rugby season with the Queensland Reds, the club said yesterday.

The 30-year-old suffered an acromioclavicular joint separation in the 35-25 win over Japan's Sunwolves in Brisbane on Saturday. He is expected to be sidelined for 12 weeks, ruling him out of the Reds' final three Super Rugby games and Japan's two-Test series against the touring Scotland side next month.
