Sports World: Photos to be part of S'pore Sports Awards

Photos to be part of S'pore Sports Awards

This year's Singapore Sports Awards on Aug 8 will also give a nod to photography enthusiasts, after the announcement yesterday that the Best Sports Photo award will make its debut this year.

A judging panel that includes seasoned photographers and award-winning photojournalists will vote on the best entry. Participants can submit entries to the Singapore National Olympic Council through e-mail at media@snoc.org.sg before the closing date of June 14.


Paddlers start well at table tennis c'ships

DUSSELDORF (Germany)• Singapore's top women paddlers got through their opening rounds at the World Table Tennis Championships with little fuss yesterday.

World No. 4 Feng Tianwei swept aside Russian Olga Vorobeva 11-5, 11-4, 11-7, 11-3. She was due to play Thailand's Nanthana Komwong late last night.

Yu Mengyu also won her match easily, beating Swiss Rachel Moret 11-5, 11-8, 11-4, 11-3. Her next tie, also played late last night, was against Germany's Kristin Silbereisen.


Sore-knee Bill out for clash against Reds

WELLINGTON • Sonny Bill Williams will miss the Auckland Blues' Super Rugby match against Queensland Reds through injury, costing the centre a chance to impress All Black selectors ahead of the Test series against the British and Irish Lions, which starts on June 24.

The Blues said he had failed to recover sufficiently from a knee injury picked up in last weekend's 16-16 draw with the Waikato Chiefs.
