Para-bowlers add to medal haul on Day 2
Singapore's para-bowlers won one gold and one silver medal on Day 2 of the Micron Singapore World Para-Bowling Tournament at the Temasek Club yesterday.
Anuar Saaid and Kalvin Tay teamed up to win the TPB 8 & TPB 8 doubles, while Wilson Chua and Bahkia Hashim took silver in the TPB 9 & TPB 9 doubles in the inaugural three-leg series. Malaysia lead the three-day, eight-nation event with four golds, three silvers and two bronzes.
Amita wins bronze at Asian Juniors
Amita Berthier settled for a bronze medal at the Asian Junior Fencing Championships in Dubai, UAE, last night after she lost 7-15 to Japan's Sumire Tsuji in their women's foil individual semi-final.
The 17-year-old had beaten compatriot Maxine Wong 15-1 in the quarter-finals.
Singapore's two other foilists in the competition, Nicole Wong and Tatiana Wong, reached the round of 16, where they were knocked out by Japanese opponents.
Tampines thrashed by 10-man Persija
Tampines Rovers were beaten 1-4 by Persija Jakarta in their AFC Cup Group H match at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta last night, despite playing almost half the game with a one-man advantage.
Defender Jaime Xavier was sent off in the 48th minute for an elbow, but Razaldi Hehanusa (one goal) and Marko Simic (hat-trick) gave the Indonesian side a handsome win. Khairul Amri scored a 77th-minute consolation header.

Another milestone for Cavaliers star James
NEW YORK • LeBron James, 33, became the oldest player in National Basketball Association (NBA) history to average a triple-double in a calendar month, scoring 31 points in the Cleveland Cavaliers' 129-123 win over the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday.
James had 12 rebounds and 11 assists for his 12th triple-double of the season and 67th of his career. He also reached 8,000 assists and became the first NBA player to reach that milestone.
