Pacquiao can return to boxing: Drilon

MANILA • Philippines' Senate president Franklin Drilon has said that Manny Pacquiao can go back to the boxing ring as long as he performs his duties as a legislator.

Mr Drilon expressed his support for Pacquiao's reported plan to return to boxing, confirming for the first time that the newly elected senator had sought his permission to fight again.

IOC finds 45 new doping failures

GENEVA • The International Olympic Committee (IOC) reported 45 new doping failures yesterday from the 2008 Games in Beijing and the 2012 Games in London, bringing the total number of positive drug tests to 98 since a retesting programme was launched.

The IOC said there were 30 "Provisional Adverse Analytical Findings" from competitors in Beijing and 15 "Adverse Analytical Findings" among London Olympians. Of the Beijing group, 23 were medallists.

Play-off injury cost Curry his Rio spot

NEW YORK • Two-time most valuable player Stephen Curry said the injuries he suffered during the National Basketball Association play-offs forced him out of the Rio Olympics.

He sprained the medial collateral ligament (MCL) in his right knee.
