Nowitzki hits 40 as Mavs win in OT
DALLAS • Dirk Nowitzki, the National Basketball Association's sixth-highest all-time leading scorer, racked up a historic 40 points to carry the Dallas Mavericks past the Portland Trail Blazers 132-120 in overtime on Sunday.
The German became only the fourth player, after Michael Jordan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Karl Malone, in NBA history to score at least 40 at age 37 or older.

Buffon concedes at last, after 973min
MILAN • Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon defied a morning fever, to set a new Italian Serie A record of 973 minutes without conceding a goal in a 4-1 derby win against Torino on Sunday.
The 38-year-old had already gone past Italian great Dino Zoff's Juventus record of 903 minutes without conceding, and needed only four minutes to break Sebastiano Rossi's record of 929 minutes, set in 1994.

Wang sees golden lining in Fifa graft
BEIJING • Wang Jianlin, China's richest man, said Fifa's corruption scandal was an opportunity for big Chinese companies to further the country's lofty footballing ambitions by undertaking sponsorship deals with the global governing body.
His Dalian Wanda Group, China's biggest commercial property developer and an active buyer of global entertainment and sports companies, became the first Chinese top-level sponsor of Fifa last week.

Cyclist denies he hitched ride uphill
MILAN • The winner of Saturday's Milan-San Remo cycling classic has denied accusations that he was towed up one of the final climbs by his team car.
Frenchman Arnaud Demare claimed the biggest win of his career, but his achievement was marred afterwards when Italian riders Matteo Tosatto and Eros Capecchi claimed that Demare "passed us at 80kmh on the climb" and accused him of taking a tow.
