Neymar to sign 5-year extension with Barca

BARCELONA •Neymar will sign a new five-year contract with Spanish football club Barcelona on Friday, a contract that keeps the Brazil forward at the Nou Camp until 2021.

The 24-year-old has scored 90 goals in 149 appearances for the club in three years.

Midfielder Javier Mascherano has signed a contract extension, which will keep him at Barcelona until June 2019.

Chinese takeover of Birmingham completed

LONDON • Chinese group Trillion Trophy Asia (TTA) completed its lengthy takeover of English football club Birmingham City yesterday.

The purchase of the second-tier side by TTA - controlled by Hong Kong businessmen Paul Suen and Daniel Sue - brings to an end the stormy ownership of disgraced businessman Carson Yeung.

TMCC named SGA Inter Club League champions

Tanah Merah Country Club was crowed overall champions of the Singapore Golf Association's Inter Club League yesterday, the first time since the matchplay format was introduced in 2011.

Singapore Island Country Club (SICC) finished second, followed by National Service Resort and Country Club. Close to 400 guests, representing all 13 local clubs, attended the gala dinner at SICC's (Island) ballroom.
