Moyes rejected offers before Sociedad sack

LONDON • Former Manchester United manager David Moyes revealed yesterday that he had rejected job offers from other clubs prior to his dismissal by Spanish side Real Sociedad last week.

In his first job since being sacked by United in April last year, Moyes led Real Sociedad to a 12th-place finish in La Liga last season, but was dismissed after a run of six defeats in nine games.

The Scot was replaced by former Barcelona B coach Eusebio Sacristan.


Clippers sale was legal, California court rules

LOS ANGELES • A California court on Monday ruled that the sale of the Los Angeles Clippers last year was legal, quashing former owner Donald Sterling's attempt to reverse the deal triggered by controversy caused by his racist remarks.

A three-justice panel of California's Court of Appeal ruled that Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Levanas had not erred in approving the US$2 billion (S$2.85 billion) sale of the team to former Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer.


World's oldest Olympian dies at 103

BEIJING • The world's oldest surviving Olympic athlete, who represented China in the discus at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, has died aged 103, according to Chinese state media and the world athletics governing body.

Guo Jie died on Sunday in the northern city of Xian, China's official Xinhua news agency said. He was born in January 1912.
