McIlroy fully fit, ready for US Open

LONDON • World No. 2 golfer Rory McIlroy has recovered from a rib injury that has kept him out of action since the middle of last month and has declared himself fit to compete at next week's US Open, the 28-year-old said.

The Northern Irishman picked up the injury earlier this year and suffered a recurrence during last month's Players Championship.

He won the 2011 US Open by eight strokes and will be seeking his second title in the event.

Maiden European Tour win for Paratore

MALMO • Italy's Renato Paratore opened his European Tour account with victory in the Nordea Masters at Malmo's Barseback Golf Club.

The 20-year-old carded a fourth-round 70, finishing with an 11-under total of 281, one shot ahead of Chris Wood and Matthew Fitzpatrick.

Paratore becomes the youngest player to win on the Tour since 2010.

Berdych splits with coach Ivanisevic

PRAGUE • Czech world No. 14 Tomas Berdych yesterday parted ways with coach Goran Ivanisevic, the former 2001 Wimbledon champion, in an effort to rescue his faltering career.

He hired Ivanisevic in August last year and won the Shenzhen Open in October, but soon slipped out of the top 10 list for the first time in more than six years.
