NEW DELHI • Singapore's top golfer Mardan Mamat shot a two-under 70, mixing four birdies and two bogeys, to total 211 after the penultimate round of the Indian Open, which he won back in 2004.
The 48-year-old, who is ranked 341st in the world, sits joint 20th, nine strokes behind leader S.S.P. Chowrasia (68) of India.
Feng upsets Zhu in Kuwait Open
KUWAIT CITY • Singapore's top woman paddler Feng Tianwei stunned China's world No. 3 Zhu Yuling 4-1 (11-9, 11-9, 6-11, 11-9, 11-7) yesterday in the last eight of the Kuwait Open and will play second-ranked Ding Ning in today's semi-finals.
Yu Mengyu and Lin Ye lost 1-3 (6-11, 7-11, 12-10, 7-11) to Hong Kongers Jiang Huajun and Lee Ho Ching in the quarter-finals of the doubles. The other Singaporeans had already exited their events at even earlier stages.
S'pore sevens side make last 8 in Borneo
The Singapore national rugby sevens team advanced to the Borneo Sevens Cup quarter-finals, after finishing as Pool A runners-up behind Hong Kong with three wins in four matches yesterday.
They beat Sabah Eagles (7-5), ATM (31-0) and Belgium Barbarians (17-10) but lost 0-29 to Hong Kong, and will face Australian side Charis Melbourne today.

Rossi stays with Yamaha 2 more years
DOHA • Motorcycling star Valentino Rossi has signed a two-year extension with Yamaha that will keep the nine-time world champion with the Japanese team beyond his 39th birthday.
The Italian returned to Yamaha in 2013 after two unsuccessful years at Ducati and he finished runner-up behind team-mate Jorge Lorenzo last season.
