Klopp pleased over new sporting director

LONDON • Jurgen Klopp has welcomed Liverpool's decision to install Michael Edwards as sporting director.

The 37-year-old has been promoted from technical director at Anfield as part of a restructuring of the English Premier League club's football operations and will take the lead role on future transfer negotiations.

His duties will also include a review and improvements of Melwood training ground, with the club looking to bring the first team and academy together at one site.

Schumacher showing good signs, says Brawn

LONDON • Michael Schumacher has shown some "encouraging signs" in his recovery from serious head injuries suffered in a skiing accident in 2013, former Ferrari technical head Ross Brawn said on Thursday.

The seven-time Formula One world champion has been treated at home in Switzerland since he left hospital and few details have been made public. The 47-year-old's condition remains unknown.
