Ibrahimovic sees red for slapping opponent

MONTREAL • Zlatan Ibrahimovic was sent off for slapping an opposing Major League Soccer player in the head on Monday but the LA Galaxy were still able to beat the Montreal Impact 1-0 without their marquee player.

Impact's winger Michael Petrasso stepped on the 36-year-old's foot and the Swede retaliated with a slap to the back of Petrasso's head.

After a video review, Petrasso was shown a yellow card and the striker a red.

Williams may get Wimbledon seeding

LONDON • Serena Williams could still be seeded at July's Wimbledon despite being snubbed by French Open organisers, the All England Club said yesterday.

The 23-time tennis Grand Slam singles winner is expected to play at Roland Garros this week but is unseeded due to her No. 453 world ranking after returning to action this year following her daughter's birth.

"The seeding order follows the WTA ranking list, except where in the opinion of the committee, a change is necessary to produce a balanced draw," the All England Club said.

Olympian files lawsuit against abuse cover-up

LOS ANGELES • Former Olympian Ariana Kukors Smith filed a lawsuit on Monday against USA Swimming, accusing the governing body of knowing she was being sexually abused by her coach and covering it up.

Kukors Smith alleged that Sean Hutchison, her coach at a swim club near Seattle, began grooming her for a sexual relationship at age 13, touching and kissing her when she was 16 and having sex with her when she was 17.
