The third-place Protectors trail Albirex Niigata (53) by 10 points and Tampines Rovers by one but have played two games and one game fewer respectively.


Scolari to call it a day at Evergrande

SAO PAULO • Luiz Felipe Scolari, 68, is leaving Guangzhou Evergrande after almost three years in charge of the Chinese football club, he announced on Thursday.
He will not extend his contract when it expires at the end of November. He is one victory away from winning the league for a third time.

No serious damage to Green's knee

SAN FRANCISCO • Golden State Warriors basketball star Draymond Green suffered no serious damage to his strained left knee according to a scan, his team said on Thursday.

The Warriors said that Green, who hobbled out of Tuesday's season-opener against Houston, underwent an MRI scan on Wednesday which revealed "no new structural damage".

Kyrgios saves himself for Australian Open

PARIS • Nick Kyrgios brought an early end to his season on Thursday after surrendering to his longstanding hip injury.

The Australian tennis player said he was withdrawing from the remainder of the campaign in the hope of being fully fit for January's Australian Open.

Sharapova, Puig go to Puerto Rico's aid

WASHINGTON • Maria Sharapova and Monica Puig will go to Puerto Rico next week and bring supplies to the island which was hit badly by Hurricane Maria last month. The tennis stars will distribute water, medicine and other supplies.

Also, Puig has raised more than US$125,000 (S$170,000) to help victims, while Sharapova is donating proceeds from her candy company Sugarpova for the rest of this year.
