Foo slumps to T-26 after 2nd-round 74

HONG KONG • A four-over 74 (138 total) from Singapore golfer Gregory Foo saw him slip from joint-second to tied-26th after the second round of the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship yesterday.

China's Cheng Jin (68, 130 total) continues to lead the 120-strong field at the Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club. Singapore's next best performer is James Leow (69, 139 total), who is joint-31st. The other four Singaporeans also made the cut at 143.


Liang to play Ratchanok in semis

BANGKOK • Singapore shuttler Liang Xiaoyu is through to the semi-finals of the Thailand Open.

She beat home hope Pornpawee Chochuwong 21-12, 23-21 yesterday to set up a meeting with Thai top seed Ratchanok Intanon, who beat Japan's Sayako Sato 9-21, 21-19, 21-12.


Kerr steps aside to focus on rehab

SAN FRANCISCO • The National Basketball Association champions Golden State Warriors could be without head coach Steve Kerr for the start of the 2015-16 season, after he took a leave of absence on Thursday to recover from back surgery.

There is no timeline for his return. The Warriors open their season on Oct 27 at home against the New Orleans Pelicans.
