Fina reeling under shock resignations

DUBLIN • Swimming's world governing body Fina is engulfed in a crisis with reports suggesting that three of the panel who vetted Russian swimmers for the Rio Olympics have resigned, after their advice was ignored.

In a letter to Fina president Julio Maglione, obtained by Irish national broadcaster RTE, the trio asked why Russian competitors were allowed to compete despite not taking doping tests undertaken by credible bodies.


S. Africa imposes six black players quota

CAPE TOWN • South Africa's national cricket team will have to include a minimum six black players with immediate effect, the national body announced on Saturday.

Although quotas have been in place at provincial and franchise level for several years, it is the first time they have been introduced for the national team.


Benzema may return after legal troubles

PARIS • The president of the French Football Federation has opened the door for striker Karim Benzema to return to the national team, when legal proceedings against him for alleged blackmail have finished.
