Figo pays tribute to legendary Gerrard

LONDON • Luis Figo said he wished Steven Gerrard had played alongside him at Real Madrid after watching the former Liverpool captain star in Saturday's charity match at Anfield.

Gerrard, who at 36 was one of the youngest and most recently retired players on show, was in sparkling form as a Liverpool Legends team beat their Real Madrid counterparts 4-3 in a match in aid of the Liverpool Football Club Foundation.

"Everyone wants to play with the best," the Portuguese star said.

Birdie blitz helps Lee take Kia Classic lead

LOS ANGELES • Lee Mi Rim shrugged off an opening bogey to card six birdies in a five-under 67 on Saturday and seize the lead after three rounds of the LPGA Kia Classic in Carlsbad, California.

With a 13-under total of 203, she was one in front of fellow South Korean Hur Mi Jung (66).

Dubai Cup win puts Arrogate on pedestal

DUBAI • Overwhelming favourite Arrogate won the US$10 million (S$13.9 million) Dubai World Cup on Saturday, overcoming a poor start to become the sport's biggest-earning horse with US$17 million to its name.

The Bob Baffert-trained colt with 51-year-old jockey Mike Smith in the saddle came home ahead of Gun Runner in second and Neolithic, who took third place.
