GOLD COAST • Singapore and hosts Australia both eased to 5-0 wins against the United States and Austria respectively yesterday at the mixed-team Sudirman Cup badminton championship. They meet tomorrow to decide the Group 2B winners.

Among the Group 1 title contenders, India shocked Indonesia 4-1, leaving the seven-time finalists needing to beat Denmark 4-1 today to stand any chance of a last-eight spot.


City's Clichy likely to move on after 6 years

LONDON • Gael Clichy is set to leave Manchester City when his contract expires next month after six years at the Premier League football club, the Frenchman said yesterday.

The 31-year-old defender made 39 appearances for the Manchester side this season as they secured a third-placed league finish. He played a total of 203 games for City, winning two league titles.

Nuno leaves Porto a day after season-end

LISBON • Porto coach Nuno Espirito Santo has left the club by mutual consent after one season in charge in which they finished runners-up to Benfica, the Portuguese football club said on Monday.

The 43-year-old departed one day after his team suffered a shock 3-1 defeat at Moreirense in their final league game.
