Bowler Tan in US Open stepladder final
Singapore bowler Jazreel Tan has qualified for the US Women's Open stepladder final in fourth place on Saturday after four gruelling rounds of qualifying and three rounds of match play in the town of North Brunswick in the state of New Jersey.
The 25-year-old made it to yesterday's final after qualifying with a total of 12,090 pinfalls. She trailed the American pack of Shannon O'Keefe (12,604), Liz Johnson (12,554) and Danielle McEwan (12,486). The winner takes home a cash prize of US$50,000 (S$71,230).
S'pore start Junior Asia Cup with losses
CHANGZHOU (China) • Singapore's Under-21 hockey womens' team restricted Malaysia to a 2-0 victory in the first fixture of the Women's Junior Asia Cup on Saturday. The Republic also lost 12-0 to India yesterday and will meet North Korea tomorrow in their third match of Pool A, which also features host country China.
Pacquiao dismisses retirement claims
GENERAL SANTOS (Philippines) • Boxing hero Manny Pacquiao hinted he has several more fights left in him despite his promoter claiming he may retire next year. The Filipino played down remarks by promoter Bob Arum that he would fight just once more in 2016 before hanging up his gloves.

Aussie Watson retires from Test cricket
LONDON • Australia's veteran all-rounder Shane Watson, 34, announced yesterday his retirement from Test cricket.
The last of the his 10-year Test career came in the Ashes opener at Cardiff which England won by 169 runs. Watson made 30 and 19 with the bat, and failed to take a wicket, causing him to lose his place for the rest of the series.

FAS holds U14, U16 trials for girls
The Football Association of Singapore is conducting selection trials for the national Under-14 and Under-16 Girls' teams on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at the Jalan Besar Stadium from 3-5pm.
The trials are open only to Singapore citizens, and participants need to attend just one of the three dates.
Selected players will represent Singapore at the AFC U-14 Girls' Regional Championship next year and the AFC U-16 Women's Championship 2017 qualifiers in October 2016.
