Albirex's perfect run extends to 10 games
Defending champions Albirex Niigata made it a perfect 10 wins out of 10 games in the Singapore Premier League, after a 5-0 thrashing of third-placed Balestier Khalsa at Jurong East Stadium yesterday.
Taku Morinaga scored a hat-trick while Shuhei Hoshino and Hiroyoshi Kamata also netted.
With the win, Albirex have a 17-point lead over Balestier and second-placed Tampines Rovers, who beat Geylang International 2-1 at Bedok Stadium yesterday.
Junior world record for shooter Martina
Singapore shooter Martina Veloso set a junior qualification world record and a national record in the 50m rifle three positions at the ISSF World Cup in Munich yesterday.
Her score of 1,177, which made her the fifth-placed qualifier, bettered the previous mark of 1,172 by China's Wang Zeru. The 18-year-old finished fourth in the final on 432.4.
Martina and compatriot Jasmine Ser had jointly held the previous national record of 1,175 in this event. Last Thursday, Martina set a national record in the 10m air rifle with her 628.6 effort, finishing 10th overall.
Molinari pips McIlroy to European PGA title
LONDON • Italy's Francesco Molinari won the PGA Championship and his fifth European Tour golf title yesterday as fellow overnight leader Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland failed to sparkle in the final round.
The 36-year-old won the €944,000 (S$1.4 million) cheque after shooting a four-under 68 to close for a total of 271, while McIlroy, 29, carded a 70 to finish as runner-up, two shots back.
Lampard in talks with second-tier Derby
LONDON • Former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has revealed he is in talks with Derby County about taking charge of the Championship football club.
Derby are looking for a new boss after Gary Rowett was hired as relegated Stoke City's new manager earlier this week. The 39-year-old told BT Sport that he "wants to get into management" and revealed his interest in the job as they are a "big club with big history" .
