RHB Singapore Cup holders Albirex Niigata beat Home United 3-1 in last night's semi-final first leg with goals from Ryota Nakai (3rd minute), Hiroyoshi Kamata (57th) and Kento Nagasaki (76th). The visitors at the Jurong East Stadium had equalised through Faris Ramli (17th).

At Jalan Besar Stadium, Global Cebu drew 2-2 with Hougang United. The Philippine side's striker Darryl Roberts had a brace (33rd, 68th) while Delwinder Singh (28th) and Fabian Kwok (85th) scored for the Cheetahs.

Wade and James set to be together again

NEW YORK • Only a few minor details remain before the expected reunion of free agent Dwyane Wade and LeBron James becomes official.

ESPN reported that Wade is likely to sign a contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers in the next day or two, pairing the National Basketball Association (NBA) champions as teammates once more. Both played together with the Miami Heat.

Legendary Magpies chief dies at 76

LONDON • Former Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd, a pivotal figure in the club's 1990s success, has died aged 76, his family said on Tuesday.

He was the Magpies' head for 10 years from 1997 and eventually sold his share of the English Premier League football club to current owner Mike Ashley.

DUBAI • World Cup 2022 host Qatar must urgently introduce laws to protect the lives of up to 800,000 migrant construction labourers working in scorching temperatures, Human Rights Watch said.

The New York-based organisation also called on the Gulf state to investigate workers' deaths and make those findings public.
