Sports world: Albirex overcome Warriors to lead group

Albirex overcome Warriors to lead group

Albirex Niigata took a big step towards qualifying for the semi-finals of football's The New Paper League Cup, after beating Warriors FC 2-0 at Jurong East Stadium through first-half goals by Shoichiro Sakamoto and Kento Nagasaki. They lead Group A on four points, one more than the Warriors.

But the 1-1 draw between Home United and Hougang United at Jalan Besar did neither any good, as it left them with a point and two respectively. Stipe Plazibat equalised after Fairoz Hasan gave the Cheetahs the lead.

Home ended with nine men after Khairul Nizam and Afiq Yunos were sent off.

SCSM 2017 will be held on Dec 2 and 3.

Shenhua to sue over match-fixing claims

SHANGHAI • Carlos Tevez's Chinese football club Shanghai Shenhua say they are taking legal action over suggestions of match-fixing, after they grabbed a last-gasp 2-2 draw at Fabio Capello's Jiangsu Suning.

The weekend stalemate means the Italian's wait for a first Chinese Super League victory goes on and Shenhua said that online speculation about the result was tarnishing the club.
