The BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global last month attracted more international tennis fans.

The WTA announced yesterday that some 130,000 fans from 51 countries attended the 10-day event, slightly more than the 129,000 from the inaugural edition last year.

There was a significant increase of visitors from India, Italy, Romania and China.

Singapore will host three more editions of the season finale.

Fifa nod for five but Bility & Platini left out

ZURICH • Fifa yesterday approved five candidates for its February presidential election, after barring Liberia's Musa Bility on integrity grounds and leaving out Uefa chief Michel Platini while he remains under suspension.

They will stand in the Feb 26 vote to replace Sepp Blatter, who has been discharged from hospital, his confidant and former publicist Klaus Stoehlker confirmed. The 79-year-old Swiss had been in hospital since Friday.
