The Singapore Bowling Federation (SBF) has named national kegler Keith Saw as its Bowler of the Year at its annual Chinese New Year dinner on Thursday night.
The 18-year-old claimed the men's singles title at the Asian Tenpin Bowling Championship last year, Singapore's first win in that event in more than 15 years.
He was also part of a four-member team that took the men's team silver at the World Youth Bowling Championships last July.
Saw faced stiff competition from Shayna Ng, who won the QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in Poland in December. That made her the second Singaporean - after Jasmine Yeong-Nathan in 2008 - to become the world champion.
SBF also handed out three Youth Bowler of the Year award, bucking its usual trend of awarding just one young kegler. Tracy See, 17, Joey Yeo, 15, and Javier Tan, 17, all went home with the accolade.
Veteran bowler Remy Ong, now the national coach, was given an award for Outstanding Contribution to the sport of Tenpin Bowling.
