SINGAPORE - The Singapore Sports Hub announced on Monday (Jan 4) that the facility welcomed over 3.5 million visitors in 2015.

During the past 12 months, it hosted 124 sports and entertainment events including football's Barclays Asia Trophy, the 28th SEA Games and the 8th Asean Para Games. In total, there were some 1.4 million attendees.

Entertainers such as One Direction, Taylor Swift and Jay Chou also performed at the facility.

Over 2 million people visited the facility for numerous organised activities, including the Learn to Play programmes, FIT Sessions, the inaugural OCBC WaterFest and the various carnivals held during SG50 Golden Jubilee Weekend, plus the two major Games.

Sports Hub's chief executive officer Manu Sawhney said: "In addition to hosting world-class teams and athletes... the 28th South-east Asian Games and the 8th Asean Para Games allowed us to witness the extraordinary achievements of Team Singapore and our very own sporting heroes... who broke records, won gold and achieved their dreams.

"We shall not rest on our laurels. Sports Hub is committed to working harder to improve and set new benchmarks for success in 2016."

This year, the Sports Hub will welcome the Japanese rugby team SunWolves as part of the Super Rugby 2016 season. They will play three matches at the National Stadium - March 12 (Cheetahs) and 26 (Bulls), as well as May 14 (Stormers).

The annual competition, which started in 1996, will also feature club teams from rugby powerhouses Australia, Argentina, New Zealand and South Africa.
