Singapore sends 20-strong contingent to Special Olympics World Winter Games

SINGAPORE will send five short-track speed skaters and a team of 15 floor hockey players to the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea from Jan 29 to Feb 5.

An official send-off ceremony was held on Sunday afternoon at *Scape, where guest of honour Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong handed a state flag to the contingent.

Dr Teo-Koh Sock Miang, president of Special Olympics Singapore, said: "The Special Olympics World Winter Games will reveal our athletes' courage and determination, both on and off the playing field."

Singapore has participated only once in the winter edition of the Special Olympics - the 2005 Nagano Games. Then, the Republic took part in floor hockey.
